Hilton Bangalore’s DoubleTree Suites has appointed Neeraj Rawoot as Executive Chef. Backed by 16 years of experience in the hospitality sector and key pre-opening operational experiences on board, he has joined this Bangalore hotel as its pre-opening member. As far as role in the hotel is concerned, he will manage round-the-clock room dining services in addition to sourcing, conceptualizing and opening the property’s all-day long dining and the lounge bar, Equinox; pan-Asian destination, Asia Alive as well as select gourmet store Grab and Go.

Before Rawoot’s appointment at the DoubleTree Suites, Bangalore hotel he was leading Hilton Chennai’s pre-opening team as Executive Sous Chef. In his work portfolio, he has headed the team The Great Kebab Factory at Radisson New Delhi and also worked for the President Park Hotel, Bangkok as a Restaurant Head.

Gateway Hotels Now Keeps Hopes on the Inbound Tourist Traffic

The rapid decline in the value of rupee against the US dollar since May 2013 will make inbound tourism cheaper in India. However the hospitality industry need to pay a lot of attention to this, said Prabhat Verma, the chief operating officer of Gateway Hotels & Resorts.

As per Verma, “A weak rupee will make inbound tourist’s cost of travel in India much cheaper. Any foreign currency (in this case, rupee), which is weaker vis-à-vis the currency of one’s destination is good for the international traveler.” He was of the view that the country needs to work hard for making India a fascinating destination for the foreign tourists and come up with a more tourist-friendly infrastructure.

The Taj Group’s venture Gateway Hotels & Resorts has recently opened its Chennai hotel, Gateway Hotel IT Expressway. This 200-room edifice is their first Chennai hotel and third in the state of Tamil Nadu. With the opening of this hotel, the total room inventory of GHR covers about 2,200 rooms. This Rs 150 Crore investment Chennai project has management contract with the LBR Hotels and Hospitality. While talking about the expansion plans, Verma commented, “We will also be launching two more hotels in Kolkata and Raipur this fiscal. In the next 18 months, eight more hotels will be added and in the next six to seven years, the number of rooms will be doubled.”

As of total, the Taj group is planning to add 1,590 rooms in this fiscal with 600 under GHR only.

From the basket of SingHotel Hospitality, the famous Hotel Sentinel, located in Andaman and Nicobar Islands has been renovated. As per a release, this 53-room Port Blair hotel has been painted and fortified with pastel shades like the previous one. However, the main focus was on upgrading the upholstery and furniture of the hotel rooms.

Besides the rooms, the lobby, lounge, pool deck and reception area of Hotel Sentinel have also been revamped. The poolside restaurant on the top floor of this three storey Port Blair hotel has been revamped to be of five star category. Adding further delight to their facilities, Hotel Sentinel will also include a fine-dining Chinese specialty restaurant. The hotel is also planning to include a full-fledged spa and therapy room in the premises. Adding to it, a boutique, salon and other shops will be formally launched in the ground lobby area of the hotel.

The Hotel Management of Hong Kong based Shangri-La International Hotel has come up with the decision to withdraw their contract from the management of its Mumbai chain. While discussing about it in a press conference the company said that the owning firm of Pallazzio Hotels and Leisure Ltd, which is a subsidiary of the Phoenix Mills, has agreed to end the tie-up in a mutual way. The long term relationship of the Shangri-La International Hotel Management and Pallazzio Hotels and Leisure Ltd has come to an end now.

As per the release, the hotel will be passed over to the owning company on September 6, 2013 and thereafter, it will not be a part of the famous Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts. The Mumbai chain of the Shangri-La hotel with 390 lavish guest rooms was inaugurated last year in December. And it was the second property of the hotel in India that was going to be managed by the Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts following the Shangri-La’s Eros Hotel in New Delhi.
