Two Luxury Hotels of Vizag Bagged Awards on World Tourism Day

Two prestigious hotels in Vizag along with a tour operator made it to the awards on World Tourism Day at a ceremony organized at the Dr. Y. S. R National Institute of Tourism and Hospitality Management, Hyderabad. Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy headed the function and the awards were given by Department of Tourism of Andhra Pradesh.

Fortune Inn Sree Kanya was awarded with the Award for Excellence-2013 whereas the Park Hotel was appreciated with the Ecotourism Project of the Year Award-2013. Vatti Vasanth Kumar, Minister of Tourism and Culture gave away the awards.  Along with these hotels in Vizag, Welfare Holiday World, which is known for organizing international and domestic tours won the award for the Most Innovative Tour Operator. Besides its 55 offices India, the tour operator also operates in Singapore, Thailand, Nepal and Malaysia.


Westin Chennai Celebrated its Cake Mixing Ceremony with Guests

Thanksgiving celebrations of the year kickstarted with the traditional cake mixing ceremony at the prestigious five star Westin Chennai, Velachery. The event commenced by the bakery’s chef giving demonstration of preparing the traditional favorites such as minced piles and Yule logs. The guests were invited to be a part of this traditional celebration by making one for their own.

Royal Orchid to Close its Hyderabad Hotel

Royal Orchid Hotels, based in Bangalore is looking forward to monetize and liquidate its hotel in Hyderabad, Re:gen:ta One. In a  BSE filing, the company stated that they are seeking approvals for the same from the shareholders. This decision comes under the part of the Royal Orchid Hotel’s strategy to reduce its debit worth Rs. 160 Crore.  In the previous year, the company sold its 104 rooms packed Royal Orchid Ahmedabad Pvt Ltd to Samhi Hotels Private Limited at a deal of Rs. 67 Crore.

Marriott Come Out with Fairfield Brand Hotel in the City of Bangalore

Mysore Police will Get Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad

Mysore, the tourist hub is all set to equip its police force with a bomb detection and disposal squad. The state home minister, K J George told that the Mysore police is working on the details for creating this squad. The home ministry department of the city has especially stationed this bomb detection and disposal squad at the Mysore Dasara festival.

After giving an eye to the security measures taken by the police for Mysore Dasara, the state home minister stated, “We’ve taken adequate security measures to ensure that the festival passes of peacefully. These are precautionary measures and not because of terrorist threats. There will be general alarm and the cops will take care of that.”

He also had a meeting with police commissioner Mohammed A Saleem and SP Abhinav Khare and DC C Shikha. DGP Lalrokhuma Pachu was also a part of the meeting and he briefed about the security measures that are put in place to ensure smooth festive ambiance in the city. Saleem informed that they are outfitted with 50 per cent of the metal detectors, door frame as well as hand held, available with the state police for ensuring there is no lack in security. Air Costa to Commercially Operate from Dasara

Headquartered in Vijayawada in the coastal Andhra Pradesh, Air Costa will start with its commercial operations from Dasara, October 14, as per the company officials. This first ever regional airline service will initially connect Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Chennai, Ahemdabad, Jaipur and Bangalore. However, after Dasara it will later spread its connectivity to Goa, Madurai, Visakhapatnam and Mysore. More than $100 million investment is planned during the next two years.

While talking to the reporters in Hyderabad, Ramesh Lingamneni, the managing director of LEPL, which is the promoter of Air Costa said that the airline has got approval from DGCA and it will run two Embraer-170 jets in the beginning owing to the lack of hangar space at the Vijayawada’s Gannavaram Airport. In fact, two more E-190 will start operating by November this year.

According to Ramesh, “Our fleet is expected to rise to 25 aircrafts by 2018. Our aim is to provide air linkage to metros from two tier and three tier cities of the country, in the comfortable quieter cabin of a jet unlike a turboprop aircraft.” He further added that Air Costa has chosen Embraer E-Jets for reliability and efficiency. The CEO of Air Costa, Captain Babu said that “Our plan is to link underserved markets in India with more direct flights. The E170 and E190 jets are ideal both in size and range. We can add frequencies and routes without adding too much capacity, thus serving places with seasonal demand, as well as key secondary and tertiary business centers.”

Also, the airline will provide flexi-fare system via company website and all time call center services. Airline tickets can also booked through travel agents.

No Special Trains for Mysore on this Dasara

People planning to travel Mysore, the City of Palaces on this Dasara would be quite disappointed to know that there will be no extra trains to the city except on the concluding day of Vijayadashami. Therefore, people will have to depend on the road transport in this festive season. Owing to the track-doubling work, South Western Railway’s Mysore Division has come up with the decision of not running any special trains on the first nine days of Dasara.

However, the special trains on Vijayadashami will be running up to Chamarajanagar and their schedule is yet to be decided. Vinayak R Nayak, the SWR senior divisional operations manager stated, “the extra trains on Vijayadashami will run up to Chamarajanagar, and their schedule is yet to be fixed. We don’t want to disappoint passengers, at least on the big day.”

However, for the convenience of passengers, there will be additional reservation counters at the 2nd entry of Mysore station, Chamarajapuram, Chamarajanagar, Nanjangud and Kuvempunagar. A cloak-room will also be provided along with a pay-and-use washroom on Platform No.1. Also, a food plaza will be opening at same platform on October 8. The railway division is also providing emergency medical care centre, an additional prepaid autorickshaw counter at Mysore’s 2nd entry. Along with this, the IRCTC kiosk will be assisting tourists on packaged tours.

As per SWR senior divisional commercial manager, K Anil Kumar, “Twenty-four trains are running between Bangalore and Mysore in a packed schedule. Adding one more train will make a huge difference in the schedule of other trains.”  Despite so many hurdles, the railways has offered the Dasara gift of running a special train on Vijayadashami.

Dasara Extravaganza: Rs 32 Lakh for Upkeep of Jumbos in Mysore

It will cost around Rs 32 lakh for the 45-50 days period of maintenance of elephants especially called for Mysore Dasara. This is the approximate cost which would be spent on 14 elephants, who have reached the city from variegated camps. This expenditure is including the amount spent on mahouts as well as their family members, who would be living in the temporary shelter inside the premises of palaces.

An average cost of Rs 4,000 to Rs 4,500 is spent on a single elephant every day. This cost comprises everything ranging from transportation from forests to city, medicines, fodder, rope and chain costs along with the soft cloth placed on the back of elephants. Devaraj, the Deputy Conservator of Forests stated that the food expense is an average of Rs. 20 Lakh. The government has granted Rs. 25 Lakh and the district administration has sanctioned Rs. 7 Lakh for the same.

The diet of Mysore Dasara elephants includes jaggery, banyan tree branches, coconut, paddy, coconut, crushed groundnut extract and other foods rich in protein and nutrients. Six people are supplying fodder for Mysore Dasara special elephants.
