People planning to travel Mysore, the City of Palaces on this Dasara would be quite disappointed to know that there will be no extra trains to the city except on the concluding day of Vijayadashami. Therefore, people will have to depend on the road transport in this festive season. Owing to the track-doubling work, South Western Railway’s Mysore Division has come up with the decision of not running any special trains on the first nine days of Dasara.

However, the special trains on Vijayadashami will be running up to Chamarajanagar and their schedule is yet to be decided. Vinayak R Nayak, the SWR senior divisional operations manager stated, “the extra trains on Vijayadashami will run up to Chamarajanagar, and their schedule is yet to be fixed. We don’t want to disappoint passengers, at least on the big day.”

However, for the convenience of passengers, there will be additional reservation counters at the 2nd entry of Mysore station, Chamarajapuram, Chamarajanagar, Nanjangud and Kuvempunagar. A cloak-room will also be provided along with a pay-and-use washroom on Platform No.1. Also, a food plaza will be opening at same platform on October 8. The railway division is also providing emergency medical care centre, an additional prepaid autorickshaw counter at Mysore’s 2nd entry. Along with this, the IRCTC kiosk will be assisting tourists on packaged tours.

As per SWR senior divisional commercial manager, K Anil Kumar, “Twenty-four trains are running between Bangalore and Mysore in a packed schedule. Adding one more train will make a huge difference in the schedule of other trains.”  Despite so many hurdles, the railways has offered the Dasara gift of running a special train on Vijayadashami.
