Stunning hill station in south India – Coorg

In India, the northern part is more famous for hill stations than the southern part. The reason is obviously the presence of the majestic Himalayan mountain range. But with the beautiful Western Ghats as the backdrop, Coorg of south India is also a stunning and famous hill station. Located in the state of Karnataka, tourists from all over the world and India visit Coorg to relax in the laps of nature. Also known as Kodagu locally, Coorg is sparsely populated and is famous for its coffee plantation as well. Coorg or Kodagu is extremely rich in wildlife with a national park, the Rajiv Gandhi National Park also known as the Nagarhole National Park and three big wildlife sanctuaries in Pushpagiri, Brahmagiri and Talakaveri. It is indeed a paradise for nature lovers where you can not only relax rest and rejuvenate amongst nature but can also experience the wildlife of south India. Coorg is also one of the richest places in India due to the revenue generated from coffee plantation. Kodagu is after all second largest producer of coffee in India after Chikkamagaluru. There are also a few temples and a fort that you can visit in Coorg.

There are a few beautiful falls too, which are of course signature of Western Ghats, in Coorg. Three of the most popular falls that you should definitely visit when you are in Coorg are the Mallalli falls, Iruppu falls and Abbey falls. Also do not miss the sunset or the sunrise or both from the Raja’s seat, which also has a musical fountain display in the evenings and a toy train ride. For activities, you can go trekking since Coorg is one of the best places for trekking in south India with many trails leading to some exquisite view points.
